At Shriners Hospitals for Children—Cincinnati, the health and safety of our patients, families, volunteers and staff is our top priority. With the rapidly evolving situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19,) we are closely monitoring local health departments and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC,) and are actively following their recommendations.

We are working diligently to reschedule appointments postponed during the quarantine. We also understand you may feel some anxiety about bringing your child into the hospital. Our plans to restart routine care have been thoughtfully developed and implemented to keep everyone safe. We are also scheduling some appointments for new patients. Families that have appointments of any kind are asked to arrive with ONLY ONE parent or guardian and no additional family members or guests.

When you arrive for your appointment, if you and your child are not already wearing a mask, you will receive one. You will both be screened for illness and will notice new safety precautions in place to promote clean hands, a clean environment, and social distancing.

Your child’s stay

Your presence during your child’s stay at the hospital is very reassuring and we encourage one parent/guardian to stay at the bedside. Rooming is available for one person over the age of 18.


The Rooftop Café is located on the fifth floor of the hospital and provides a welcome place for families and visitors to enjoy a meal.

Cafeteria hours

Monday through Friday
Breakfast: 8–9:30 a.m.
Lunch: 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Dinner: 5–6:30 p.m.

Saturday, Sunday, and holidays
9 a.m.–2:30 p.m. limited menu

To have a meal with your child, you may purchase your meal in the cafeteria and take it to his room. If your child is allowed out of bed and away from the unit, you may bring her with you to the cafeteria. Snack and soft drink machines are also available throughout the hospital.

Parking and directions

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Cincinnati has its own attached parking garage. The entrance to the garage is on the back or west side of the hospital.

Do not enter the driveway to the garage designated for University Hospital Employees located to the right of this driveway. Use the intercom system to notify security of your arrival. There is no charge for parking in this garage.

Transportation to Cincinnati

Every Shriners Temple has a special unit of transporters called Road Runners. For your child’s appointments at the hospital, the Road Runners will pick you and your child up at your home and drive you to your appointment at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Cincinnati, and then return you home afterwards. The sponsoring Temple and Road Runners do this at no charge to the family.

Airline travel may be available to families who are required to travel long distances.

Note: Shriners Hospitals for Children — Cincinnati does not provide van transportation to or from the hospital on the weekends, holidays or in the late evening. Please take a cab that accepts e-vouchers. Upon arrival at the hospital, ask security for a cab slip to give the driver.

Laundry facilities

Laundry facilities are located on the second floor of the family care unit and are available for families staying at the hospital. Laundry detergent is available from our family services/care coordination office.

Shopping van

Transportation is provided for parents on Saturday afternoons to local shopping areas.


Hospital security provides on-site services 24-hours a day.
