At Shriners Hospitals for Children—Cincinnati, the health and safety of our patients, families, volunteers and staff is our top priority. With the rapidly evolving situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19,) we are closely monitoring local health departments and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC,) and are actively following their recommendations.

We are working diligently to reschedule appointments postponed during the quarantine. We also understand you may feel some anxiety about bringing your child into the hospital. Our plans to restart routine care have been thoughtfully developed and implemented to keep everyone safe. We are also scheduling some appointments for new patients. If you have any questions, please call the hospital at 855-206-2096.

Families that have appointments of any kind are asked to arrive with ONLY ONE parent or guardian and no additional family members or guests.

When you arrive for your appointment, if you and your child are not already wearing a mask, you will receive one. You will both be screened for illness and will notice new safety precautions in place to promote clean hands, a clean environment, and social distancing.

Visitors

We encourage family presence so your child has the support they need. We recognize that each family is unique, and we welcome visits by the individuals you designate as family and friends. We do not restrict or deny visitation based on origin, sex, gender, race, color, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.

Our visiting guidelines balance the needs of the family with the safety of the child. All restrictions are based on keeping the patient safe and preventing the spread of infection.

All visitors must stop at the security desk for registration. An ID is required for all visitors over the age of 18.

Visiting hours are 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.


Inpatient visits (ambulatory surgery)

When checking into the hospital, stop at the security desk to register. An ID is required by all visitors over the age of 18. 

We welcome up to two (2) parents/guardians to be in the patient’s room around the clock. We understand that you may not be able to be here 24 hours a day.

Parents/guardians can designate someone over the age of 18 to provide support when the parent/guardian is unable to be at the patient’s bedside.

We respect the right of parents/guardians and adult patients to identify who may and may not visit.

  • When you arrive, you will be asked to provide names of those who will be visiting. Up to 10 names, including those staying in the Family Care Unit, can be on the list.
  • Two visitors for ICU patients are permitted at a time in the patient room. All other patients will be allowed visitors based upon your child’s needs and condition. 
  • This list of visitors will be kept at Security.
  • The legal guardian can update the list by noon each day.

All visitors must register at the security/information desk. All visitors will be reviewed first with the parent/guardian for approval of visitation. Approved visitors will receive a form of identification for use while in the hospital. If permission to visit is not given by the parent/guardian, or staff cannot contact the parent/guardian, the visitor will not be allowed on the unit and will be instructed to contact the parent/guardian regarding visitation.

Visitors must be healthy. This includes: no fever, cold or other sign of contagious illness. 


Outpatient visits

Before going to the outpatient area stop at the security desk for registration. An ID is required by all visitors over the age of 18.

Families have the right to bring as many support people as they think necessary. The number of visitors who accompany the patient into the exam room may be limited by the size of the room or the clinical care needs of the patient. Those who do not go into the exam room are welcome to stay in our waiting room.
